“We lost our Aunt Marie yesterday evening at the age of 100 Years and a few weeks.  Aunt Marie was born April 19, 1919 to Coss Clark and Della Ramsey Clark. She had eight brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Timpson High School in 1939.

Not long after graduation, she left East Texas and found the job she loved for so many years with Southwestern Bell. Aunt Marie was instrumental in finding jobs for the young East Texas men who came for a good job. She married Loy Jones, and they lived and worked in Houston for many years.

Aunt Marie never forgot her East Texas roots and made many trips to her home place. After retirement, they moved to the Clark home place and built them a new home.  She continued to work for the phone company for a few more years.

Uncle Loy passed away, and Aunt Marie married Uncle James Humphries.  They loved to travel and see the country.  They fished in Alaska and caught a lot of delicious fish. Uncle James passed away after quite a few years of marriage. Aunt Marie has lived at Lake Side Village since then.

Aunt Marie is a unique lady who is loved by so many, she has always been available to help her family and friends when they needed it.

To her nieces and nephews, she was more than an aunt.  She was also a loving sister to her 8 siblings.

To my sisters and me, she was more like a mother than an aunt. She was a fantastic cook who was patient and kind with three little girls.

When we had activities at school, she always drove from Houston to be there for us. All of her nieces and nephews could tell stories of how’s he helped them grow and shape their lives.  After Aunt Marie and Uncle James married, she became the proud mother of Jay and the grandmother of his daughters. One of Aunt Marie's favorite activities was the Shelby County Singers and their gospel singing. 'She would also lead the great old songs.

We love Aunt Marie so much and can only imagine what a grand reunion day she, her family, and friends are having!

The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Kay Childress and the staff of Lakeside Village for taking such good care of our Aunt Marie.”

Marie is survived by her step-son, Jay Humphries and wife, Mikki of San Antonio; step-granddaughters, Sherry Humphries and Susie Humphries both of San Antonio; step-great-granddaughters, Ruby, Maudie and Julia of San Antonio; numerous nieces, nephews, close family friends Bill and Judy Stegall; and a host of other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Coss and Della Clark, two husbands and nine siblings.
