Mrs. Thelma Williams Sherrod, of Crockett, received her eternal Heavenly reward on April 16. 2012 while continuing to live at Whitehall Nursing Center at the age of 99. Thelma was born March 25, 1913 in Honey Island, Texas. Thomas and Thelma Sherrod along with their infant son, Philip, moved from Timpson to Crockett in 1935. They built a home later in 1937 on "Sherrod Hill" at 113 Viewcrest Lane. Tommy went into business on the square in Crockett with a Furniture Upholstery Shop, later adding Shoe Repair and then the shop became Sherrod's Fixit and Swap Shop. Thelma helped in the endeavor waiting on customers and in other ways. The Sherrods immediately after moving to Crockett joined First Baptist Church of Crockett where Thelma taught Preschool Children in Sunday School and in later years became the Secretary of the Pastor's Class. As Secretary of the class she kept in contact with all the class members and saw that food was provided for the family by the members any time there was a death in the class or church. Tommy sang in the choir, assisted in the oldest Sunday School Class and later became a Deacon. In later years both Thelma and Tommy joined the Melody Maker Senior Adult Choir, both of them loved their church and Ministers wholeheartedly and church life was a vital part of their family. The Sherrods and extended family gratefully thank the personnel of Whitehall Nursing Center for their continued love over the past thirteen years and a special thanks to Dr. Perry Ramsey for his medical help and friendship. She is survived by her son, Philip Sherrod and wife, Margaret; daughter, Sharon Gosper Lesyk; daughter-in-law, Lucy Spinks Sherrod; grandchildren, Cherisa Sherrod York and husband, Sammy, Rebecca Sherrod Guess, M.D. and husband, David, Tom Sherrod and wife, Kim, Donna Sherrod Garrett and husband, Johnny, Tracy Sherrod Minter and husband, Bobby and Sean Gosper; great-grandchildren, Colin York and wife, Cynthia, Barrett York, Braden Guess, Natalie Guess, Brandon Sherrod, Austin Garrett and wife, Krysta, Rachael Garrett-Allen, Matt Minter and Cassie Minter; great-great-grandchildren, Maklory Minter, Madison Minter and Leah Garrett; sisters, Ruth Copeland, Lonnie Mae Whitten and Laura Bell Way; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
