Obituary for Rev. Calvin Hancock

Funeral services for Rev. Calvin Hancock, 85, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Anderson Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Lynn Hitt officiating under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday night at Hawthorn’s. Rev. Hancock died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family January 18, 2018.
Rev. Joseph Calvin Hancock was born May 7, 1932 in the Rosehill Community of Timpson, Texas. He was the fifth child of eight born to the marriage of Carlos Grant and Mattie Lucille Dorsey Hancock. He was raised and schooled in Timpson graduating with the class of 1950. Calvin was a graduate of the Texas Baptist Institute and received his honorary doctorate there. He married Jo Ann Langford in December of 1956 and they celebrated 61 years together.  
Calvin worked in local broadcasting in both Carthage and Henderson for many years. He was ordained in October of 1957 and spent 60 years in the ministry throughout East Texas and mission work in the Houston area. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Rev. Hancock is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Hancock of Carthage; children, Janet Humber and husband Greg of Carthage, Donna Williams and husband John, Jr. of English, Marian Ewald and husband Todd of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and David Hancock and wife Renee of Georgetown; brothers, Chuck Hancock of Nacogdoches, Jim Hancock and wife Sophia of Lufkin, Alvin Hancock and wife Betty of Garrison, and George Hancock and wife Laura of Pollock; sisters, Tommie Jean Hudson of Garrison, Frances Williams and husband Charles of Center, and Patricia Pratt and husband Buddy of San Augustine; grandchildren, Trey Williams and wife Norrisa of English, Molly Minter and husband John of Detroit, Philip Humber and wife Kristan of College Station, Jacob Rushton of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Brooks Hancock of Georgetown; five great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Trey Williams, John Minter, Philip Humber, Jacob Rushton, Brooks Hancock, Greg Humber, John Williams, Jr., and Todd Ewald. The family suggests memorials to the ministry of your choice.
