E. O. "Red" (Circa 1924) Wedgeworth - Class Of 1924 VIEW PROFILE

Espie Orin Wedgeworth was born on April 4, 1907 to paents Joseph Richard Wedgeworth and Laura Elizabeth Stanfield.  We believe he had at least four siblings, Opal Cortez Wedgeworth(1910-1998), Monnie Wegworth(1895-1974, Cortus Wedgworth(1893-1982) and Roy Marvin Wedgworth(1897-1990).  Epsie did attend Timpson High School but we are not sure of the year or if he did graduate.  If he did it would have been around 1924. He married Doris M. McElfatrick(1907-1995).  Espie died on January 14, 1998 and was laid to rest in Tyler, Texas.

Services for E.O. "Red" Wedgeworth, 90, Tyler, were held Friday at First Christian Chuch with Rev. Donald Hauck, Dr. C. Earl Giggs and Rev. Mike Hunter officiating.  Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.  Wedgeworth died Jan. 14.

He was born in 1907 in Timpson to the late Joe and Laura Wedgeworth.  He graduated from Timpson High School, recieved his bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State Collge and did graduate work at Texas Technological.  He was a public school adminstrator for 14 years at Synder and Fluvanna, manager of Chamber of Commerce in Snyder and Stamford before moving to Pampa, where he was active in various civic activities, including helping to organize the Top O Texas Rodeo Association. 

He was on the board of American Chamber of Commerce Executives and served as president of Texas Chamber of Commerce Managers, West Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives and Texas Association of Fairs and Expositions.

He moved to Mineola upon retirement in 1977 and was a member of First Christian Church, Tyler, were he served as an elder, chairman of church board and choir director.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Doris Elza, and his wife of five years, Doris McElfatrick Harbuck, and sisters, Dena Nail, Jewell McMillon and Adele Still, and brothers, Cortus, Monnie and Roy.  Survivors include daughter, Anita Pickle, Tyler; sister, Opal Darby Gartman, Austin; on granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.  If desired, memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
