Mary (Circa 1911) Sapp (Tyson) - Class Of 1911 VIEW PROFILE

We believe according to her obituary that Mary Sapp graduated around 1911 from Timpson High School based on her age.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gilmer Tyson, 88, of Center will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday, August 25) in Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Lewis Johnson and the Rev. Elmer Mathews officiated.  Burial was in Blair Cemetery.  Mrs. Tyson died at 11 a.m. August 23 in Mesquite while visiting in the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.F. Johnson.

She was born November 29, 1893 in Shelby County, the daughter of Hillard Sapp and Annie Wilson Sapp. A graduate of Timpson High School, she recieved her college education and Teacher's Degree at San Marcos and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.  She taught school for some 30 years before retiring several years ago.  She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Blair Community; a member of Delt Gamma Sorority and a member of the Shelby County Unit of Retired Teachers. She and her husband resided in the Waterman Community most of their lives.

Survivors are her husband, Gilmer Tyson, a long time member and president of the Shelby County School Board and a retired Center businessman; a daughter, Evelyn and her husband E.F. Johnson of Mesquite; a grandson, Tyson Johnson of Irvin; two granddaughters, Shawn Hickman of Garland and Melody Johnson of Mesquite;  also four great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Austin Stevens of Brownwood; 

Pallbearers were Marvin Bearden, Larry Bearde, Louis Harris, B.G. Bridges, Homer Rampy and Blaine Taylor.
