Irene Poss (Power) - Class Of 1933 VIEW PROFILE

We are not sure if Irene graduated from Timpson but according to her obit she attended Timpson schools and then the College of Marshall.  We estimated based on age that she was with Class of 1932.

 

Funeral services for Irene Poss Power, 84, of Carthage, were held Friday at First Baptist Church in Marshall.  The Revs.Hollie Atkinson and Jerry Spivey officiated.  Burial followed in Algoria Cemetery-North in Marshall under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall.  She died Tuesday at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview after a short illness.

Born Oct. 4, 1913 in Carthage, she was the daughter of Leonard Joseph and Alda Elise Pinson Poss.  She attended Timpson public schools and he College of Marshall with a business major.  She was owner/operator of the Power Grocery Store working there from 1945 until her retirementin 1981.

Power was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marshall and teh Evangel Sunday School Class.She married Earl Dair Power on Dec. 13, 1937 in Longview.  She was proceeded in death by her brother,Lynwood J. "Billy" Poss and her husband who died on August 21, 1983.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William D. "Buddy" adn Diane Power, of Marshall;  daughters and sons-in-law; Shirley and Gary Heath, and Mary Venita "Gee Gee"adn Steve Wheeler, all of Marshall; sisters and brotherss-in-law, Vera Avis adn Will Power, and Juanita "Tot" Cassity, all of Marshall.

Also her grandchildren, William Dair "Bill" Power, Jr., Cherry Lynn Power Howeth, Steven Wheeler, Jr., Natalie Wheeler Post, Monica Heath Nava and Leslie Spivey, all of Marshall, Dustin Howeth, Brook Power, Nikki Howeth, and Victoria Spivey, all of Marshall; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Bill Power, Mark Johnson, Steven Wheeler, Jr., Jerry Power,hal Cobs adn Donnie Howeth.  Alternate pallbearers were Gary post and Sam Oats.

Serving as honorary pallbeaers were Will Power, Jack Power, Roland Green, Alonzo "Bo" Capps, Pope, Dick and Larry Fisher, Dick Hill, Bill Kalla, Irvin Power, Jr., Gene and Henry Power and James Cassity.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Building Fund or to the Irene Power Scholarship Fund at Marshall Independent School District, 1305 Pinecreast, Marshall, Texas 75670.
