Lawrence was born in Stockman along with his twin sisters, Florence Delia Franks. He attended Stockman schools and then Timpson.  Along with his brother Bennis they enrolled in the College of Marshall on Choir scholarships.  From there they recieved basketball scholarships to attend SFA. He had outstanding career at SFA and then recieved his Ph.D. from Indiana Univ.  He eventually became Dean of Men and Associate Dean of Men at the University of Texas.  He also served in the Navy.  In 1942 he married Myrtle White and after her early death he married Dorothy Conley Fulk.  Lawrence died in 1997.
