SUGGEST EDITS

Janie Lee Parrish was born November 18, 1924 in Paxton, Texas in Shelby County to Dewey and Vergie Lucretia Parrish. Janie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mutt in 2012, and her grandson Hudson McKinley in 1999. Also by her sister Mary Lee Parrish Savage in 2015 and her brother Roland. Janie graduated in 1941 from Timpson High School and worked as a soda jerk several years before entering Stephen F. Austin State University and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She moved to Trinity Texas to work at the school there and met the love of her life, L.W. Mutt Hudson. They were married January 1, 1950 as the first to wed at the newly constructed Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas, where she will be interred next to her husband and grandson Hudson. Janie served her Marshall community in many capacities. She was the President's secretary at East Texas Baptist College for many years, then became the Vocational Office Education Coordinator in 1969 for first Pemberton High School, then Marshall High School following integration in 1970. She worked to train and obtain jobs for the young women in High School, and was dedicated to their excellence until her retirement in 1984. Janie and Mutt loved the Lord Jesus, and were faithful members participating in the life of First Baptist Church. They rarely missed a Wednesday night meal/Bible Study or a Senior Trip or gathering. She published a newsletter for the church shut-ins with information she gathered through phone calls so that each of them could keep up with the happenings of their church friends. Besides her newsletter service to the shut-ins at First Baptist Church, Janie was a member of the Pilots Club, the Pink Ladies at Marshall Memorial Hospital, and Meals on Wheels.
