Talmadge Delton Stilley was called to be with our Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 20, 2012, in the chapel of the First Christian Church, with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the ion of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home.

He was born on September 7, 1923 in Timpson, Texas to Talmadge and Clara Rhoads Stilley. He graduated from Timpson High School where he was a star football player as well as an academic scholar. He worked for Western Union in Port Arthur, Texas for a time before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He flew bombing missions in World War II from the island of Tinnian in the South Pacific. During this time he received the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during a bombing mission.

Delton attended Montana State College and Texas A M University and received his B.S. degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and later his M.S. as well. He taught Math and Chemistry at Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Texas where he also drove a school bus and narrated the football games. He was a popular teacher and community citizen where he was well liked and had many friends with whom he maintained close contact for many years. While teaching in Carlisle, he met and married Sue York from Tatum, Texas. Delton and Sue had two sons, Randall Delton Stilley and Thomas William Stilley. He enjoyed seeing his two sons excel in academics as well as starring on the football field as members of the Nocona Indians Football team.

He left Carlisle to become High School Principal at Throckmorton High School, where he later served as Superintendent of that district. He was employed as Superintendent of Nocona I.S.D. when the boys were in elementary school where he remained until they both graduated and moved on to attend and graduate from The University of Texas at Austin. He then became Assistant Director of the Region IX Education Service Center in Wichita Falls until his retirement.

For several years he enjoyed his main hobbies of fishing and hunting. He was very active and faithfully went the Y to workout until the last few months of his life.

He is survived by his wife Sue, son Randy Stilley and wife Sandy of Houston, Texas, grandsons, Michael Stilley of Houston, Texas, Dan Stilley of Los Angeles, California, son Tommy Stilley and wife Heather of Portland Oregon, granddaughter Madeline Stilley of Portland, Oregon and grandson Everett Stilley of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, a sister Hilda Watson of McKinney, Texas, a brother, Bobby
Stilley of Timpson, Texas, two brothersinlaw, Jack York and wife Deb of Tatum, Texas and Billy Thompson of Timpson, Texas, several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kay Stilley Higley and JoAnn Stilley Thompson.
