Maurine Elizabeth Nichols was born on December 29, 1918 in Timpson, Texas to parents Joe Russell Nichols (1888-1936) and Mabel Clair Crawford (883-1947).  She at least four siblings:  Prof. Clyde Russell Nichols (1908-1988), Cleo Velma Nichols (1910-1983), Atty. Perry Augusta Nichols (1915-1983) and Joe Russell Nichols, II (1923-1969).

Maurine graduated from Timpson High School in 1936.  On June 9, 1954 at the age of 35 she married Karlsson Mitchell . Maurine passed away in 2003 in Miami, FL.
