A service of the celebration of life for Dr. George W. Harbuck will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, April 14, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe with Rev. Larry Stafford and Rev. Terry Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Lamar Cemetery south of Delhi with Rev. Joe Rountree conducting. Services will be under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi. Dr. Harbuck was a graduate of Timpson Hight School in Timpson, TX and continued his education at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, TX receiving an Associate Degree in Business; University of Houston, Houston, TX receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree; Duke University, Durham, NC receiving a Bachelor of Ministry and Reform Theological Seminary College, Jackson, MS where he received a Doctorate of Ministry.
Dr. Harbuck served as a Methodist minister in the Louisiana Conference from 1945-1982. During this time, he served Trinity United Mehtodist Church, Alexandria;1st United Methodist Church, Mansfield; Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Shreveport; District Superintendent, Monroe District; 1st United Methodist Church, Monroe; Oak Park United Methodist Church, Lake Charles; and Gretna United Methodist, Gretna. he retired and moved to Mansfield with his wife of 58 years, Nancy Fulton in June 1982. He served as Minister of Visitation at the 1st United Methodist Church in Mansfield as well as interim pastor of Huwitt Memorial Presbyterian Church in Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Fulton Harbuck of Delhi; two daughters, Nancy Tate and her husband, Oscar of Delhi, Fran Stellman and her husband Vernon of Stillwater, OK; five grandchildren, Gerry Tate, Leslee Cunnion, Kristi Roegner, Christopher Stellman and Taylor Stellman; six great grandchildren, Goeffrey and Samantha Tate, Ben and Katie Cunnion, Skylar and Collyn Roegner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and J. S. Harbuck and seven siblings, Eddie Crawford, Bess Roberts, Charles Harbuck, Jimmy Harbuck, Joe Bailey Harbuck, Hellen Olds and Kate Lyford.
Pallearers will be Gerry Tate, Geoffrey Tate, Keith Cunnion, Ben Cunnion, Keith Roegner, Christopher Stellman, Taylor Stellman and Ed Harbuck.
Any planned memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Winnsboro, Crowville United Methodist Church or to the First United Methodist Church in Monroe.
