Leonard Tyer - Class Of 1934 VIEW PROFILE

Funeral services for Leonard Dean Tyer, 65, of Timpson were held on Monday, Sept. 14 in the First Baptist Church of Timpson.  The Rev. Gene Walker, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Aubrey Howell.  Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.  Mr. Tyer died Sept. 11 at his residence. 

Born in Huber Community of Shelby County on Sept, 20, 1915, he was retired owner of Tyer Lumber Co., a former president of the Timpson School Board, a former city council member, a former director of the Shelby General Hospital and chairman of the Board of Deacons of First Baptist Church  for more than 20 yearss.  At the time of death, he was a director of First State Bank of Timpson and a member of the Timpson Lion"s Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gwenith Wedgeworth Tyer of Timspon; a daughter, Kay Tyler Nix of Timpson; five sisters; Thelma Hillman of Timspon, Barksdale Crenshaw of Center, Sallee Simonds of Nacogdoches, Pauline Hays of Houston and Janelle Edwards of Timspon and two grandchildren, Milt and Jim Nix of Timpson.

Serving as pallbearers were: Bobby Smith, Fred Alexander, George Alexander, Jim Cozart, Mack Taylor, Jesse Lee Ross, Orval Miller and Mike Towns. Honorary pallbearers were:deacons of the First Baptist Chruch and Clif Rolad , Dan Fletcher and Richard Williams.  Taylor Funeral Home of Timpson was in charge of funeral arrangements.
