J. E. Vaught - Class Of 1937 VIEW PROFILE

James E."Jake" Vaught was born on September 2, 1919 to parents Oscar and Lena Vaught.  We believe he had at least five siblings...Rachael Vaught, Wade Vaught, Lowell Vaught, James O. Vaught and Maxwell Vaught according to the 1930 Census.  The family at that time lived on the Timpson Stoackman Road.  James graduated in 1937 from Timpson High School. On April 12, 1943 he married Cleo Emanis in Shelby County.  He served in the Army during World War II reaching the rank of 1st Lt.  They had on child, Martha Cleona Vaught Blakenship.  (1947-2014).  Cleo passed away in 2008 and James died on February 20, 2002 and was laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Larry Hume (Hume)

Born in Stockman, Shelby County, Texas to Lena Francis and James Oscar Vaught, Sr.  He grew up with five brothers who all served our country and four sisters.  He graduated from Timpson High School in 1937 and enlisted in the US army in Houston, Texas on June 19, 1941.  Before departing for overseas he married Cleo Emanis April 12, 1943.  On April 23, 1945 he was awarded a battlefield commission as a Second Lieutenant for outstanding leadership against the Japanese.  He earned a Purple Heart for wounds received in action, awarded the Bronze Star and the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge.  Honorably discharged January 20, 1946.  He passed February 20, 2002 at the age of 82 and rests with wife Cleo, daughter Martha and son Clarence in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.
