Clarence O'Neal Shepherd - Class Of 1937 VIEW PROFILE

Clarence O'Neal Shepherd, 80. of Port Arthur, TX died Tuesday, January 25, 2000at Christus St.Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.

He was born to William Rile Shepherd and Lucille Lightfoot Shepherd on November 2, 1919 in the Prospect Community of Shelby County.  He attended Timpson High School and University of Texas.

In 1939, he married his wife of 60 years,Iris McCauley, of the Huber Community.  He was a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WWII, veteran of the European and Pacific Theaters. He began wor work at the Texas Company in 1941 adn retired from Texaco in 1979 after 38 years of service.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 1315 and the United Methodist Temple.

Mr. Shepherd is survived by his wife, Iris; a daughter, Rebecca Kenton Judge and husband, John, of Dripping Springs, TX; three sons, David Preston Shepherd of Monte Vista, Daniel Win Shepherd and wife Pam of Port Arthrur; five grandchildren, Sarah Kenton Key, Seth Kenton, Adam Kenton, Matthew Kenton and Megan Shepherd.

Services were held Friday, January 28, 2000 in Port Arthur, with graveside services in New Prospect Cemertery in Timpson.

The family wishes to thank all those who supported them with their prayers, presence adn thoughtfulness.  Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur or to the Alzheimer's Research, 919 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 1000,Chicago, Ill. 60611-1676.

Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the death of US Army World War II Veteran, Technician 5 CLARENCE O’NEAL SHEPHERD. Born in Shelby County, Texas to Lettie Lucille Lightfoot and William Rile Shepherd.  At the age of 7 his father was killed as the result of a gun shot wound in Port Arthur, Texas.  Mother Lettie died a year later of Typhoid Fever.  O’Neal as everyone knew him then lived with his grandparents Marion Wooten and Lizzie Shepherd in Timpson, Texas.  A 1937 graduate of Timpson High School, he also attended the University of Texas.  In 1939 he married Iris McCauley.  Inducted into the US Army at Camp Wolters, Jefferson County, Texas.  Trained at Camp Abbot, Oregon and Fort Lewis, Washington.  Served in France, Belgium, Germany, Philippines and Japan.  Receiving his honorable discharge January 29, 1945, he and wife Iris made their home in Port Arthur and raised three sons and a daughter.   O’Neal worked for Texaco Oil for 38 years before retiring in 1939.  He passed at St. Mary’s Hospital, Port Arthur in 2000 at the age of 80.  Iris passed ten years later and they are both buried in the New Prospect Cemetery, Timpson, Texas with a number of other relatives.
