Services for Fred W. Davis, Sr., 58, of Lufkin, were held July 25, 1977 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Davis had lived in Lufkin for 29 years. He was employed as a highway patroleman for the Texas Department of Public Safety for 29 years. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II, retiring as First Sgt. Co. A 49th Armored National Guard. He was a charter member of the Angelina County Peace Officers Association and was a member of the Eastview United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors: wife, Bernice; daughters, Mrs. Darwin (Bo) Smith, Mrs. Wylma (Harold) Chance; sons, Richard and Tim; grandsons: Jimmy, Darwin Dale Smith and Mark Chance; brother, Robert; sisters, Iva Gay Sale and Dollie Van Pelts; a number of nieces and nephews.
All East Texas peace officers are named as honorary pallbears.
