Curtis Paul Pollard - Class Of 1940 VIEW PROFILE

Services were held on Tuesday, Jan., 30, 1996 at 2 p.m. at Tennessee United Methodist Church for Curtis Paul Pollard, age 74, ot Tennessee Community.  Curt passed away after a lenghty illness, Sat., Jan. 27 in Nacogdoches.  He was born in the Tennessee Community May 1, 1921, son of Daniel Fling and Kizzie Antoinette Pollard.

He graduated from Timpson High School in 1940. He was a member of the Timpson Bears football and basketball teams.  After graduating from high school, Curt moved to Houston where he met Everlyn Smith of Crockett. They were married on Oct. 31, 1941.  Curt and Everyln returned to the East Texas area where Curt worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co., as as routhe salesman.  He served his country during World War II, stationed in Bakersfield, CA.  In 1946, Curt and Everyln moved to Houston where Curt went to work for Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver.  In Houston, Curt and Everyln and their children, Dan, Carole and Diane were members of the Wesley Methodist Church and Curt served the church as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years.  He was also active in the Masonic Lodge after being raised in 1947 to a Master Mason by his father-in-law, Milard Smith.  He remained active in the Blue Lodge, Eastern Star, York Rite, Scottish and the Shrine.  He attained degree KCCH and lifetime membership of the Scottish Rite.

In 1973, after 30 years of service with Greyhound, Curt and Evelyn returned to the Tenaha area, moving back to the old Pollard home place in the Tennessee Community.  He continue to seve as an ambassdor for the Sriners Crippled Childrens's Hospital in Shreveport, LA.  At the time of his death, Curt was a member of the Tennessee United Methodist Church, Tenaha Masonic Lodge AF and AM #747 where he served as Master 1979-1980 and teh Tenaha Chapter of Eastern Star # 185 where he served as Worthy Matron on 10 separate occasions.

Curt was preceded in death by his paents, brothers, William and Joe Pollard, sisters, Pauling Risinger, Frances Teal and Mary Hughes.  Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; sisters, Wilma Moore, Laneville, Mildred Harris, Beaumont, Martha Porter, Houston and Mozelle  Barrington, Houston; brothers, Marshal adn Wilson Pollard, Tennessee Community; children, Dan and Diane Pollard, Wimberly, TX, Carole and Warren Sears, Tenaha, Diane ane Paul Brandt, Chicago; eight grandchildren, Shelli Sears Edwards and husband, Campbell, Valerie Pollard Walsh, Damon Sears and four great grandchildren.
