Joe Russell Nichols, III was born on March 4, 1923 in Timpson, Texas to parents Joe Russell Nichols and Mabel Clair Crawford.  He had four siblings, Prof. Clyde Russell Nichols (1908-1998), Cleo Velma Russell (1910-1983), Atty. Perry Augustus Nichols (1915-1983) and Maurine Elizabeth Nichols (1918-1983).  Joe graduated from Timpson High School in 1940 and served in the Armed Forces. In 1946 at the age of 23 on June 21, 1946 he married Gwendolyn Bernice Martin.  We do not know much more about Joe other than he died on November 11, 1969 and was laid to rest at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
