Toy Smith was born on December 10, 1910 to parents John Lewis and Mary Alma Chapman Smith in Shelby County, Texas.  He graduated from Timpson High School in 1930 He had at least seven siblings, Annie Smith (1903-1990), Annious Anson Smithn(1903-  ), Bobbie M. Smith (1907-1992), Troy Lynn Smith, Sr., (1910-1975), Hardy Smith (1916-1981), Milton Smith (1919-    ), Lavelle Smith (1922-    ) and Sam Hendrick Smith.

When in school he played football.  Toy graduated in 1930.   Toy was married to Eva Juanita Brown Smith (1909-2006).  In 1941 they lived in Louisiana.   He died on November 15, 1993 in Houston, Texas at the age of 82.
