William Rial “Bill” Taylor, Sr., 84, of Timpson, TX, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, in Garrison, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Garrison, TX, with Rev. John McGuire officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, January 21, at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson.

Born May 19, 1928, in Timpson, TX, William Rial “Bill” Taylor, Sr., was the son of the late Thomas Edgar “Ed” Taylor and Harriett Cassie Clements Taylor. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and Stephen F. Austin State University and served his country in the U.S. Army. He and Charlotte McMillan of Garrison were married August 23, 1949, and enjoyed fifty-one years together until her death on January 01, 2001. Bill then moved from Timpson to Garrison to be near his sons.

Bill Taylor truly loved his hometown of Timpson. After teaching math in several East Texas schools, he returned to Timpson in the mid 1950’s to work for his dad and in 1959, he became a licensed funeral director. Bill also owned and operated Bill’s Hardware in Timpson. In 1967 he bought the funeral home and spent the next 40 years serving the families of Timpson. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church, Timpson, a member of the board of trustees of Timpson Independent School District, charter member of Timpson Quarterback Club, and a member of American Legion Post 90 of Timpson.

Bill’s great joy was his family. He enjoyed time spent on his farm in the Rose Hill community, especially deer hunting with his sons and their friends. Good times were also enjoyed at the fish camp on the Sabine River.

Surviving Bill are sons William Rial Taylor, Jr. and wife Cindy of Garrison and Bret Taylor of Garrison; also former daughter-in-law Rachelle Taylor of Dayton, TX; grandchildren: William Rial Taylor, III, and wife Taryn, Chase and wife Abby, Rialie Jo, Bret Clements, Jr. “BC.”, Dylan, Toby, Roxie, and Sage Taylor; step grandchildren: Brandi Eddings and husband Nash and Kyle Lee and and wife Brooke; great grandchildren: Kinleigh and Charlee Taylor and another one on the way; and step great grandchildren: Averi and Maddi Eddings.

In addition to his parents, Bill Taylor was preceded in death by wife Charlotte McMillan Taylor, and brother Thomas E. “Ted” Taylor.
