Funeral services for Rev. Calvin Hancock, 85, of Gary, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Anderson Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Lynn Hitt officiating under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawthorn’s. Rev. Hancock died peacefully at his Gary home surrounded by his family Jan. 18, 2018.

Rev. Joseph Calvin Hancock was born May 7, 1932, in the Rosehill Community of Timpson. He was the fifth child of eight born to the marriage of Carlos Grant and Mattie Lucille Dorsey Hancock.

He was raised and schooled in Timpson graduating with the class of 1950. Calvin was a graduate of the Texas Baptist Institute and received his honorary doctorate there. He married Jo Ann Langford in December of 1956 and they celebrated 61 years together.
