Met his wife, June Lewis, while in the Navy in El Centro, California. Married her in 1953.  They moved to Lufkin where Max became the manger of East Texas Motor Freight.  Later with Perry's Brothers he was a transportation official.  He died of a heart disease in 1999.  He and June did not have any children.
