This was a paper Steve wrote in his senior year of high school.  It says Steve 1959, but it is for 1959-1960.  He was a sweetheart to his little sister, me, (Betty) and I adored him. He was always working when he was grown 17-18.  He bought me a 3' tall, beauiful doll when I was 5.  He earned the money working for a Piggly Wiggly in Andrews, TX.  When we moved to Corinth community, he bought me a red-headed doll that I still have today that came in a plastic bell shaped container which probably came from the Billups filling station in Carthage.  I thought it was fantastic.  He bought me a cultured pearl necklace and a pearl ring when I was in grade school.  I still have them both.  The most luxurious thing he ever bought when I was a kid was an electric blanket for our old cold house in Corinth.  He actually bought three, one for my younger brothers, one for my sister and I and one for Mama and Daddy.  I don't know if he bought one for himself or not.  Last, but not at all least,  was when my first baby died, and he carried the baby's body from Carthage Hospital to Taylor Funeral Home to save us some money because Von and I were so young and broke.  He paid for the funeral himself.  I didn't know this until many years later.  He was a kind, loving, giving and supportive brother, and I have missed him so much.  A lot of people never saw this side of him, but I did.  I always remember thinking how handsome I thought he was when I was little and even after he was grown and getting ready for a date on Friday night.  He would come through the house pretending to dance; with that jet black hair and cologne smelling so good.  May you rest in peace sweet brother.  I still love you and think of you everytime I see one of the presents you gave me or hear one of the records you loved to play.  I still have those 33 1/3 vinyl records, too, and a record player that will still play them.
