Hoya Murphy - Class Of 1935 VIEW PROFILE

Hoya B. Murphy was born on January 17, 1914 to parents Bob and Minnie Ola Ash Murphy.  He had a brother and two sistes., Joel Murphy, Mary Ruth Murphy Rogers and Ozella Murphy Mansinger. We believe Hoya finish high school around 1932 at Timpson based on his age.  The 1940 Census show that Hoya was living at home and working "on his own account".  It also shows that Hoya had completed four years of high school.  The family was raised in Caledonia.  On November 25, 1940 Hoya enlisted in the National Guard in the Infantry in Timpson.  At that time he was single with no dependents.  He was 5'8' tall weighing 160 pounds.

Hoya died in WWII on December 8, 1944 at the age of 30.  He was a private in the 115 INF.   Hoya was laid to rest the Caledonia Cemetery in Rusk County, Texas.

A sidenote, Hoya sister Mary Eva Murphy later married Charles "Jimmy" Rogers who was a prisoner of war during WWII.
