Osburn Wesley Mason Jr. (Wes), age 79, loving Son of Osburn Wesley Mason and Nera Bridwell Mason, died peacefully at home on May 26, 2011. He was born July 4, 1931 in Nacogdoches, TX.
He graduated from Stephen F. Austin College Demonstration High School, Nacogdoches TX in 1948. Wes graduated with a BA in Journalism from Texas A&M University in 1953. In 1953 During the Korean War, Wes was commissioned as a 1st Lt in the US Army and served as Security Intelligence Officer at the Pentagon, Washington DC.
He returned to Texas after his service commitment was fulfilled and soon settled in San Antonio. He worked for over thirty years in the commercial printing industry and spent most of his career as a Territitorial Salesman for Steck-Warwick of Austin and American Printers of San Antonio.
In his retirement years, he worked as a volunteer at the Northside Independent School District as a mentor with young children on computer and reading skills.
He is survived by his teenage sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Hazel Shaw Mason, and his younger brothers Wayne Mason of Borne, TX and John Mason of San Antonio, TX. Wes is also survived by his daughters and their husbands: Kathleen and Ronald Benton of Woodbridge VA and Pamela and Arthur DeMone of Abilene, TX. Wes enjoyed his 8 grandchildren: Kirk Benton of St Cloud MN, Jennifer Benton of Alexandria VA., Jonathan and Mason DeMone of New York City, Glynis DeMone of Arlington, TX, Amber Albson of Houston, TX, Jordan Kennedy of Rockwall, TX and Courtney Mason of Ft. Worth, TX. Wes also had three great-grandchildren: Faith Anne Benton of Billings, MT. Haylie Grace Benton and Caleb Benton of Mauratown, Va. Wes was preceded in death by his son, Brian Wesley Mason of San Antonio, TX.
Funeral arrangements are through Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo San Antonio, TX 78215. Memorial Services were held at Western Hills Christian Church at 8535 Huebner Rd, San Antonio TX. on June 3, 2011. A grave side service at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery was at 11:30 AM June 3 2011.
