Mrs. Crawford was not only my mother-in-law, I also taught with her at Timpson from 1969 until she retired a few years later. Teaching was her life; from the time she began teaching in the rural schools of Panola County until she moved to Shelby County where she first taught at the Shady Grove Country School. She married Royce Crawford (She came to Stockman as Joella Hull), and the began her career at the Stockman School, which was quite a facility for the day. She taught there until the country schools consolidated and she went on up to Timpson where she remained until her retimrement in the early 1970's. She continued to substitiute in Timpson, Garrison, and Tenaha until she was about 78 years old. Mrs. Crawford was a teacher who was strict and demanded the best from her students. I never had her for a teacher but I do know that she deeply loved her job and her students. I know of many less fortunate students that she helped in many ways.
Ms. Crawford was one of my favorite teachers at Timpson Jr. High I remember the day that she was teaching us how to fill out checks. Wow how things have changed. I always felt very comfortable in her class room.
Mrs Crawford was truly one of the best teachers in grade school. She had a way of teaching that when class was over, you knew that you had learned something. Believe me she taught me a lot and some of the things I learned from her, I still use in everyday life. She was and always will be an inspiration in my life.
