Peggy Smith (Stone) - Class Of 1961 VIEW PROFILE

Peggy Smith (Stone)

Peggy was born in Shelby County, the daughter of Jacob and Maxie Snelson Smith.  She grew up in Timpson and graduated from Timpson High School. She was forever a Timpson Bear and enjoyed attending her class reunions with her childhood friends.  In her early adulthood, Peggy found herself working at the Ford dealership in Timpson.  She was then introduced to Bobby Stone, who came to work there as well.  It didn’t take long for Peggy and Bobby Stone to realize how they felt about each other.  The two were joined in marriage on December 19, 1965.  Soon after, they relocated to the Houston area for Bobby to work at Dow Chemical.  Their family grew to include their two sons and Peggy was overjoyed to be a mother.  She was their greatest supporter and was sure to make it to every practice and game during their time playing baseball.  Of course, when summer rolled around, they would take yearly camping trips with Keith and Charlie and spend quality time with them in their favorite places.  When Peggy was blessed to become a Gege, her heart was full.  She loved her two grandsons as much as she did her own boys.  Although she didn’t particularly enjoy cooking, they were sure to get a heart shaped cake each year for Valentine’s Day and it has been said that they were taught the art of “graze eating” because she always had something available for them to snack on.  She enjoyed sewing and was quite good at it.  For many years, she filled the need for those around her as a seamstress and would make Halloween costumes and pajamas for grandchildren and great grandchildren.  After she and Bobby retired, they were afforded the opportunity to take the grandsons and continue the camping tradition with them as often as was possible.  She also kept them during the summers and made many memories watching them play…until her soap operas came on and during that time between 11am and 1pm, the boys were typically locked outside to play so she could watch her “shows” in peace.  This event has brough much laughter over the years!  Peggy remained in Clute even after the passing of her beloved Bobby Dale.  However, she returned to her hometown of Timpson a couple of years ago to the family farm and reconnected to her friends she has had for many years.  She loved it here and was happy to know that Keith and Pam would join her.  Peggy will be remembered as the feisty, strong-willed lady who “did it her way” and loved her family more than anything else.  She was full of knowledge and was sure to pass that on so that others would benefit from the things she learned over the years, even if it took “fact checking” to prove to them that she was, in fact, right!

Peggy is survived by her son, Keith Stone & wife, Pam of Garrison; grandsons, Trent Stone & wife, Ricy of Clute and Cody Stone & wife, Ally of Brazoria; grandchildren, Triston, Kylee, Kalyn, Case and AnaLeigh (Panda); sisters, Shirley Smith of Cleveland and Ann Deshazo & husband, Dewey of Nacogdoches as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Dale Stone; son, Charlie Stone and an infant brother.

Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Stone, Trent Stone, Cody Stone, Triston Stone, Aaron Groen, Eric Brittain, Mitchell Cumbie and Cecil Adamcik.
