Ted Broadway - Class Of 1950 VIEW PROFILE

Ted Broadway

Rev. Ted Ralph Broadway was born on May 11, 1932, in Shelby County, Texas to Samuel Jones Broadway and Della Josephine Allen Broadway. He was the fifth of six children and was known for being shy and his ability to kick a football. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1950 and moved to Beaumont, Texas. It was in Beaumont, in 1951, that he received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus Name. He accepted the call to the Ministry and moved to Houston. In 1953 he married a God-fearing lady, Thelma Louise Liles. The following year, Ted and Louise moved to Tupelo, Mississippi to attend Pentecostal Bible Institute. 1956 was a monumental year for Ted and Louise: they welcomed their first child, Ted Ralph "Sandy" Broadway Jr., completed their time at Bible College, he became a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church International, and moved to Romayor, Texas where they pastored for 18 months. In May of 1959, after years praying and fasting and with the help of many community members, Ted and Louise planted a church in Channelview, Texas where they pastored for the next 61 years. They welcomed Samuel Jonathan Broadway in March 1962 and Tamala Lou Broadway in February 1966. They were privileged to raise their first grandchild, Valerie, who moved in when she was 10 years old.

In his 61 years at Channelview Tabernacle, Bro. Broadway was known for helping young ministers grow and develop by giving them opportunities to minister. Throughout their life, Ted and Louise traveled to all 50 states and many countries. His most memorable travels, which he talked about often, was to Ethiopia where he was forever changed. He was known by most as Bro. Broadway or Granddaddy. He loved bringing his family donuts on Sunday mornings which he started over 35 years ago, and he was known for complimenting everyone he passed.
