Louin "Hickey" Yarbrough - Class Of 1942 VIEW PROFILE

Honoring the life and service to our country of US Army Air Forces Veteran, Staff Sergeant EDWARD LOUIN “HICKEY” YARBROUGH, SR. on the 15th year of his passing.  Born in Timpson, Texas to Jewel and Edward Pearson Yarbrough.  A 1942 graduate of Timpson High School he joined the Army Air Forces on February 24, 1943.  He served as an aerial gunner on B-24 and B-17 Heavy Bombers amassing over 50 combat missions in the European Theater with the 15th Air Force.  He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters (4 awards) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy.  He was honorably discharged one day after VJ Day, September 3, 1945.  Sergeant Yarbrough is buried in the Blair Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

Larry Hume (Hume)

He was born July 22, 1923 in Timpson, Texas to Jewel and Edward Pearson Yarbrough.  Graduated with the Timpson High School class of 1942.  He was inducted into the US Army Air Forces on February 24, 1943 and served as a gunner aboard B-24 and B-17 Heavy Bombers with the 15th Air Force in Europe.  Timpson newspapers report he was awarded the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters (4 awards) and the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight again the enemy.  Honorably discharged September 3, 1945.  Married Mellie June Dickerson in Shelby County on August 18, 1956.  Passed November 20, 2003 leaving sons Edward L. Yarbrough, Jr. of Belcher, Louisiana and mark E. Yarbroough of Timpson, Texas; daughter Pam L. Yarbrough Hopkins of Lufkin, Texas.
