Walter Eugene (Gene) Boynton was born August 29, 1924, in Zavala, Orange County, Texas, the only child of Walter Knox Boynton and Albula Walker Boynton. He died September 2, 2007, at Denton Regional Medical Center from complications following a broken hip. Gene donated his body to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Willed Body Program for medical research, for which he had a passion. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, Denton, after which the family will receive visitors in the Gathering Area of the church. 

Gene was reared in east Texas and graduated valedictorian of Timpson High School on May 23, 1941. He attended Stephen F. Austin Teacher's College from September 1941 until June 1943. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served actively in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from July 1, 1943 until his Honorable Discharge on March 23, 1946. He attended Texas Christian University from September 16, 1946 until January 25, 1947, then graduated from Baylor University College of Dentistry on March 25, 1950. Gene practiced dentistry in St. Jo, Texas from 1950 until 1956, when he and his young family moved to Denton where he continued to practice dentistry until his retirement in February 1998. Gene was a member of the Texas Dental Society and a former member of the Denton Kiwanis Club and Dallas Woods and Waters Club. An avid quail hunter and fisherman, Gene loved animals, was a wonderful storyteller, and had a great sense of humor. 

He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Gene Boynton Burke and son-in-law, Hardy Burke of Krum and Nancy Jane Boynton Hightower and son-in-law, Maxwell Hightower of Dallas; four grandchildren, Samuel Boynton Burke and his wife, Anna of Dallas, Amy Elizabeth Burke of Austin, Blaine Maxwell Hightower and Keith James Hightower, II, both of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Catherine Claire Burke and Samuel Sessi Burke, both of Dallas. 

The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents of Right @ Home Residential Assisted Living for their extraordinary love and care during the last few months of Gene's life.
