Edward graduated in 1903 from Timpson High School and became a dentist.
When Edward William Smith was born on October 8, 1884, in Timpson, Texas, his father, William, was 20 and his mother, Leta, was 19. He married Quoquese Addison on June 8, 1910, in Shelby County, Texas. They had two children during their marriage. He died on June 20, 1943, in his hometown, at the age of 58.
