Eunice Ramsey (McDowell) - Class Of 1909 VIEW PROFILE

Leila Eunice Ramsey McDowell was born in Overton, Rusk County, Texas, August
21, 1892. 

She was the daughter of Joseph Breckenridge Ramsey and Sarah Rebecca Wells
Ramsey.  The Ramseys had two daughters: Frances Jeannette and Leila Eunice
Ramsey. Both daughters attended and graduated from Timpson High School.
Frances Jeannette graduated in 1906. 

The Ramsey family moved from Overton to Timpson in August 1894, where J.B.
or Professor Ramsey as he was known served as school superintendent from
1894-1913.  

Leila Eunice graduated from Timpson High School in 1909, along with Myra
Blankenship, Lena Evans and Marion Overton McDowell. 

Leila Eunice attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas,
1910-1911.  She taught school in the Timpson school system 1911-1912, and
returned to Southwestern University 1912-1913.  After Southwestern
University, she taught school at Beckville, Texas, 1913-1914, attended
summer school at the University of Texas during 1914, and then taught at
Carthage school system 1914-1915.

She married Marion Overton McDowell in Timpson at the Methodist Church on
May 17, 1915.

Mrs. Eunice Ramsey McDowell , 84, a longtime prominent citizen of Timpson,
died  October 14, 1976, in a Beaumont, Texas, hospital following a heart
attack.  She had made her home in the city where her daughter Jeanice
McDowell Pate and her family lived.  Eunice Ramsey McDowell had lived in
Beaumont since the death of her husband Marion Overton McDowell on March 24,
1973. 

Services were held at 9 o'clock, Saturday morning, October 16, in the
Broussard Funeral Home Chapel in Beaumont, with graveside services at 2
o'clock that afternoon in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpso
