Joe was the tenth of eleven children.  He grew up in Buena Vista Community outside of Timpson.  Joe served as medic in WWII.  Joe married Louise White of Gary.  To this union there were three children...Bill Frank Rhodes, Bobby Rhodes and Donald Rhodes.  Joe worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport for a whil but moved back to Timpson.  When they moved back to Timspson, Joe worked for the shcool and Louise worked in the Timpson Tax Office.  Joe passed away in 1986 and is buried in the Timpson Missionary Baptist Cemetery.  (Information from the Timpson Area History Book 1800-2002)

Mr. Joe Rhodes, 65, of Timpson, passed away Sudnay, December 14, 1986at his residence.  Mr. Rhodes was born September 13, 1921 in Shelby County, Texas.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife, Louise Rhodes of Timpson, 3 sons, Bill Rhodes, Bobby Rhodes, Don Rhodes also of Timpson; 2 brothers, Elvis Rhodes, John L. Rhodes both of Timpson; 2 sisters, Frances Barnes, Annie Bridwell both Timpson,7 grandchildren.

Services were held at the Timpson Missionary Baptist Church with Rev.Sammy Eldredge officiatiing.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Tim Magness, Billy Magness, George Duke, Hooker Roberts, Mike Box, Neuville Bogard, Honorary pallbearer, Robert Billingsley.
