Joel was born on February 15, 1917. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1936. He was in the Marine Corp while serving his country in WWII. On December 20, 1938 he married Margaret. On August 8, 1993, Joel passed away is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery beside Margaret who died on August 16, 2003.

Larry Hume (Hume)
Born in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas to Minnie Ash and Bob Murphy. He grew up with four sisters, Mary Eva, Inez, Ozella, Margarete and one brother Hoya. He graduated with the Timpson High School Class of 1936. On November 28, 1938 at the age of 21 he and Miss Margarette Molly were married in Shelby County and lived with Joel’s parents and siblings.
On October 16, 1940 Joel registered for the first peacetime military draft in the history of the United States in Timpson as required by law. His registration card noted address as Timpson, age 23 and self-employed. Physically described as white, five foot nine inches tall, 136 pounds with brown eyes and hair.
His brother Hoya, three years his senior had enlisted in the Army on November 25, 1940 and was on active duty when the United States entered World War II a year later. Tragically he was killed in action in Germany December 8, 1944. Four months later Joel at age 28 enlisted in the US Marine Corps April 26, 1945. He received his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina and advanced infantry training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. World War II ended September 2, 1945 and Joel was sent to Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California and then to Mare Island, California where he was honorably discharged March 15, 1946.
Joel died at the age of 75 on January 8, 1993 in Harris County, Texas. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Shelby County, Texas where wife Margarete joined him in 2008. Day is done, God is nigh.
