Rayford Sparks - Class Of 1936 VIEW PROFILE

Vernon Rayford Sparks was born March 14, 1918 to parents Thomas Edwin Sparks and Ora Lee Barnes.  He had at least one sibling, Loyd Elliot Sparks.  Vernon graduated from Timpson High School in 1936,  He joined the army in 1940 and served five years during WW II.  In 1941 at the age of 23 he married Alice Madison Powers in Timpson, Texas.  Vernon was employed by Union Carbide in Texas City.  He was listd at a chief operator for Union Carbide.. Vernon died on April 2, 2001 in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.   He was member and deacon in the Timpson Missionary Baptist Church.  He was laid to rest in the County Line Cemetery at County Line Baptist Church in Rusk, Texas.

Funeral serices for Vernon Rayford Sparks, 83, of Timpson, will be at 2 pm Thursday in Timpson Missioanary Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Eldredge, church pastor, officiating.  Burial will in County Line Cemetery, Rusk County.  Sparks died April 2, 2001, in Hospice at Texas Medical Center, Houston.

Born March 14, 1918, in Timpson, he was the son of Thomas Edwin and Ora Lee Barnes Sparks.  He was a 1936 graduate of Timpson High School.   He was retired after 34 years as chief operator for Union Carbide.  He was a member and deacon of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church, and he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from November 1940 to November 1945 during World War II.  He was married to Madison Powers Sparks and she preceded him in death.  Survivors include daughter, Patsy Dansby of Houston;  Pete Sparks of Timpson and Tommy Sparks, Jr. of Timpson;  two grandchildren; and three grandchildren.
