George Griffin joined our Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2002 after a long, wonderful life. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, September 21, 2002 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Leland Crawford. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A 58 year resident of Shreveport and member of Morningside Baptist Church, he leaves behind many loved ones and friends.

He began his life September 1, 1911 in Lufkin, TX and resided in Timpson, TX, where he was an outstanding athlete that excelled in track and football until he left for the University of Alabama. At UA where his outstanding athleticism continued, he played alongside such greats as Bear Bryant and Don Hutson until he had to return home after his own father's death. George served in the U.S. Army and was a surgical technician during WWII. After WWII, he returned home where he worked for Railway Express Agency until his retirement in 1975.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Fannie Mae McGee Griffin, as well as his parents Rand Dever and Sara Griffin and siblings.

He is survived by twin sons, Milton R. (Ranny) Griffin and wife, Linda of Keithville, LA and George D. (Danny) Griffin and wife Vickie of Akron, OH. He is also survived by five grandchilren, Daryl Griffin and wife Syralja of Shreveport, Dustin Griffin and wife Chrissy of Akron, Derek Griffin and wife Kristi of Greenwood, Misty Griffin of Akron, and Deidre Griffin of Keithville as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Daryl, Dustin, and R. D. Griffin, Ted Hairgrove, Philip Singleton, and Andy Tackett. Honorary pallbearers will be Derek Griffin, Thomas Gaston, Kirby Wilson, RH Kennedy, Bernon Aaron, Leonard Foster, and Wilson Rogers.

Many thanks to Guest House and Hospice for all their help and support. A special thanks to Diane, Tinzie, Daisy, Roberta, and Nicole for their care.
