Funeral services for Mr. Arthur F. Horton,age 83, of Timpson were held Tuesday, August 8,at 11 am at the the First Baptist Chruch of Timpson.  Rev. Jimmy Jones and Rev. Clark Stricklin officiated and music was provided by Gail Hairgrove and Susan Miller.  Burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson.  Mr. Horton died Saturday, August 5 in Timpson.  He was born January 8, 1917 in Panola County, Texas to Willie H. and Georgia Fincher Horton.

He was ordained deacon in the First Baptist Church in 1948; a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific; a 50 year member of the American Legion  and Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Lion's Club, secretary of Lake Timpson Board for 27 years, served as President of Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Horton served as Mayor of a short time and was elected Outstanding Citizen for the Year in 1968l  He was the prievious owner of Horton Insurance Agency, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Horton was survived by his wife Irene Bailey Horton of Timpson, sons and wives, Hal and Arlene Horton of Timpson and Barry and Anita Horton of Houston; granddaughter, Shelia Barret and husband , Carl of Albuquegue, NM; gradnson and wife, Art Horton and Kim of Carthage; granddaughter, Caroline Horton.  Also survived by a nephew, Howard Horton, a niece, Peggy Cook, and 2 sisters-in-law, LaVera Hutsell and Elizabeth Bailey;  and several cousins.

Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dottra, and an adopted sister, Avis.
