Alma Jean Ramsey Bridwell

Alma Jean Ramsey Bridwell, age 88, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away December 31, 2018 at her home. She was born November 21, 1930 in Martinsville, Texas. All who knew her knew of her faith in Christ.

Alma Jean began working as a switchboard operator in Timpson, Texas, when she was in her late teens, and that experience grew into a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She retired from Southwestern Bell in the mid-1980s to spend more time with her grandchildren and to travel the world.

Alma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Marvin Ramsey and Florence Valeta Hearne Ramsey; husband, Lendon Thomas Bridwell; and son, Charles Lendon Bridwell. She is survived by her sister, Avis Stamps; niece, Betty Parker; daughter Carolyn Jennings and husband Leonard; daughter Gail Weatherly and husband Jim; daughter-in-law Sharon Bridwell; grandchildren Neill Beckham, Autumn Sharp and husband Sam, Kelley Cagle and husband Chris, Holly Middlebrook and husband Andrew, James Weatherly and wife Megan, Drake Bridwell and wife Lacey, and Clint Bridwell; and great-grandchildren Caden, Hartlee, Hayden, Hollis, Conley, Camron, Christian, Drew, Brett, Blake, Madison, Cooper, Ella, Natalee, and Silas.

Alma Jean enjoyed travel, and after many trips that included Europe, Russia, Israel, Alaska, the Bahamas, Panama Canal, and the Caribbean, it was her delight to share the joy of travel with each of her grandchildren by sending them on a trip to another country as a graduation gift.

Throughout her life, Alma Jean had many interests. She loved reading, writing short stories and poetry, attending plays, painting, cooking, playing the piano, singing, sewing, and studying gemstones. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family and sharing her faith with those she loved.

Many people contributed to the loving care provided Mrs. Bridwell in her home during the latter years of her life. These kind, professional caregivers included Deborah Calhoun, Eva Christopher, Nikki Duckett, Keleca Palmer, and Tikisha Sterns.

The funeral service will be held at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas, on Saturday, January 5 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Robert Easterling officiating. Visitation will start at 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery.
