Lovis graduated in 1946 from Timpson High School.  Lovis passed away in Houston.  His services were held at the Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson wtih Rverends Ottie Reed of Clayton, Harold Nichols of Irvin and Raymond Tines of Groves officating.  He was laid to rest in the Timpson Missionary Baptist Cemetery.

At the time of his death, Mr. Gary was survived by his wife and two sons, Dale and Gregory; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gary of Timpson; four brothers, Melvin Gary of Longview, Elgin Gary of Longview, Mervin Gary of Houston , and Jimmy Gary of Carthage; four sisters,Mrs. Helen Hudson of Houston, Winnie Molloy of Houston, Mrs. Melvin Sparks of Groves and Mrs. Vera Brooks of Orange.
