Steve Shepherd - Class Of 1948 VIEW PROFILE

Stephen Emmet Shepherd (Steve) a former resident of Timpson, died in Fairfax, VA. Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 at age 67.  He was the son of Ethel and Emmett Shepherd of Timpson and was born Dec. 31, 1930. Steve was a alumni of Timpson High School having graduated as valedictorian in 1949 and of SFA University where he graduated with honors receiving BA and M.Ed. Degrees in English and education.

Steve enjoyed his upbringing in Timpson where his family operated successfully the Senate Cafe and Shepherd's Cafe. He knew most,if not all, of his Timpson comtemporaries (old and young) and never forgot them. Throughout his life he recalled anecdotes about Timpson, its citizens and happenings.  Timpson and his upbringing there clearly occupied an important part of Steve's heart and soul.

Steve's career was teaching, industry and art.  He held teaching positions at Navarron Junior Collge in Corsicana and at Hayward and Los Banos Public High Schools in California.  He will no doubt be remembered by some former Timpson students for his substitue teaching at THS in the early 60's.  In industry, Steve worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Richard Colley & Assoc., an architectural firm in Corpus Christi and for CACI, a computer service firm in Arlington, VA. His true love and avocation was art and music to which he devoted many satisfying hours painting adn worked in Europe as private secretary to a world renowned classical pianist.

Steve is survived by his immediate family; brother, David and wife, Julie of Fairfax, Va; nephew, Stephen Shepherd and wife, Cathy of Falls Church, VA., niece, Katharine and husband, Max Dubansky and daughter , August Grace Dubansky of Grantsville, MD.  The family has requested any rememberances be made to Good Hope Baptist Church in Blair, Texas.

David Shepherd (1959)

Steve died September 21, 1997 in Fairfax, VA.  He is buried in Good Hope cemetery in Blair.
