Graduated from Timpson High School in 1953.
Received a degree in music from Lamar University in 1957.
I played the flute in the Lamar Band, First flutist in the Beaumont Symphony, and played in the Opera Orchestra.
Taught Orchestra and Choir in Warren, TX. for 2 years.
Taught High School and Jr. Hight Choirs in Vidor for three years, and Band in Vidor ISD until retirement in 1992.
My husband, Charles, was inducted into the Texas Band Masters Hall of Fame in 2003, and he was inducted into the Music Hall of Honor at Lamar in 2007.
My children were top honor students. Kevin graduated as Number one student in his class. Both were Drummajors of their Dad's band. Julie was a flutist, and Kevin played bassoon and trumpet.

School Story:

When in the 9th grade, I joined the choir under the direction of Jimmy Hudgins, and he talked me into joining the band. His wife, Mable Hudgins, directed us in a very funny musical, "Sadie Shaw from Arkansas". In the middle of this year, Mr. Hudgins finally talked me into joining the band. Needless to say, this changed the direction of my life! I excelled, became a fanatic in practicing my flute and piccolo which helped earned my scholarship to college. I was told that I was the first student from Timpson HS to get in the Texas All-State Band.
